2010 marks the 121th anniversary of The Nazare's Funicular in Portugal. This scenic century old public transport mode was built on July 28, 1889 and at that time, it was pulled by a steam engine. The funicular railway is considered to be one of the better initiatives of the town’s history, allowing the growth and development of the district of Sitio on top of the hill, as well as providing an easier access to the beach quarter. Before the funicular railway was built, access was quite difficult as there were only a gravel walking path on a 3 km road from Sitio to Nazare town. Thanks to Sofia from Canedo, Portugal for sending me this lovely postcard...

Every city, as well as people, has it's image. Ancient Kiev which stretched above the Dnieper River has it's image too (A verse is below)...
Kiev is lost in a grey haze.
It's a miraculous paradise.
How many magicians
Were needed to build it?

Bridges Of Malaysia
The oldest railway bridge in Malaya is the Victoria Bridge in Karai, Perak. Built in 1897, it was the most advanced bridge in terms of its engineering in the Far East at that time. This bridge provides a communication link for the growth of the tin mining industry and the development of the mining towns in the Malayan Peninsula. With the opening of this bridge, the whole of the west coast from Perai to Johor Bahru was linked by rail.
This bridge was built in 1933 to provide means of transportation to the Segamat district as an initiative by the government to develop the district for its agricultural adtivities and to boost its economy. The Sungei Segamat Bridge is a Steel Pratt Girder Type bridge with a length of 00.43 metres. It provides a railway crossing over the Segamat River.
